After the initial term, Performance Level rentals continue month-to-month, and if your plans change during the term you can switch down to a month-to-month Standard instrument anytime, so your child keeps playing.
Why does the trombone include a mouthpiece purchase, and which Schilke do I need?
The Westport Public Schools music department recommends a Schilke 51 mouthpiece for trombone players. The shank size depends on the horn: the Performance Level trombone (Yamaha YSL-448G with F attachment) takes the Schilke 51 large shank, while the Standard student trombone takes the Schilke 51 small shank — same cup design Stephen recommends, just sized to fit your trombone's receiver. (The small-shank 51D is a different cup designed for euphonium and should not be used on trombone.) Either way, the mouthpiece is a one-time $75 purchase rather than a rental item, since a mouthpiece is personal to each player.
